USNA paused all sports (but hoops) - huge impact in water polo
Due to a spike at the academy, they paused all sports but not hoops (don't get me started). The huge impact is on water polo - they were hosted the Mid Atlantic Water Polo Conference tournament this weekend. The winner gets an auto bid to the NCAA tournament. One of the scarcest resources in sports is pool time, and the MAWPC inquired at 40+ facilities to rehost the tournament in less than a week turnaround. The best they could do was pare the 8 team tournament to 3 teams for a 2 game tournament at Bucknell on Sunday. GW plays LaSalle, winner plays top seed Bucknell. Navy stood a good chance of winning it. BTW LaSalle didn't deserve the third bid. This is their final season before being shut down, and that was a total sympathy vote. The two D2 teams in the conference (divisions only exist for scholarship purposes in polo) have historically beaten LaSalle down and were passed over.
